The Vintage Motorcycle Rally—All Makes and Models Welcome
Motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to attend the Lorem Ipsum Vintage Motorcycle Rally at The Forgotten Works Warehouse, 518 Walnut Street in Viroqua, Wisconsin, on Saturday, July 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Viroqua is at the heart of an interesting system of state highways and country roads in Wisconsin’s beautiful driftless region. Wrenchers of vintage motorcycles of all makes are especially invited to make the trip—not only for the enjoyable riding, but to show their machines, meet fellow vintage appreciators, and join us for a community picnic in Viroqua’s historic railroad district.
The event includes an educational exhibit regarding the history of motorcycling in Wisconsin, an exhibit by local motorcycle manufacturer S&S Cycles of Viola, Wisconsin, and a Brammo Enertia 100% electric motorcycle. The electric motorcycle represents a new future in efficient transportation and the sport of motorcycling.
American Café, an independent film about the Slimey Crud motorcycle “gang,” will be shown in Driftless Books (located in the Forgotten Works Warehouse) at 2 p.m., and an exhibit of surrealist collages by Gary Ortman of Peoria, Illinois, will be on display in the warehouse gallery.
The picnic features Organic Prairie bratwurst and hamburgers on the grill, vegetarian sloppy joe sandwiches, home made sauerkraut, organic lemonade and mint tea, iced Kickapoo Coffee, a 50/50 cash raffle, and live bluegrass music. La Belle Masonic Lodge #84 of Viroqua, Wisconsin, is assisting with the sale of food and raffle tickets. All profits will be donated to their college scholarship fund for local high school students.
The event begins with a 5-mile family bicycle ride around the city of Viroqua, honoring simplest form of transportation on two wheels for all ages. Participants should meet at the Forgotten Works Warehouse before 11 o’clock to join the ride.
As the Driftless Center for Slow Media, The Forgotten Works Warehouse encourages immediate relationships with our environment. A motorcyclist, for example, experiences an intimate relationship with the road. Furthermore, a person who services and maintains his own machine has a special appreciation for the beauty and efficiency of transportation on two wheels. The Forgotten Works Warehouse is home to Driftless Books, online dealer of nearly a quarter of a million new, used and rare titles. The bookstore is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday.
